S M 12 VOLT SYSTEM

I HAVE A 2 WIRE DELCO ALT. 12 VOLT NEG.GROUND SYSTEM AND IGNITION SWITCH WON"T STOP THE MOTOR IN OFF POSITION {NEW KEY SWITCH}. HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED A 50 VOLT 1AMP DIODE BETWEEN #1 CONNECTION ON ALT. AND IGNITION SWITCH . NAPA AUTO PARTS HAS THEM , BUT NEED TO KNOW WHICH TO BUY, NEG. OR POS SYSTEM. DOES THIS MEAN NEG GROUND ON MY TRACTOR WOULD USE A NEG. DIODE ? IS THEIR A PARTS # FROM NAPA THAT IS CORRECT? THANKS FOR ANY INFO. CLAYTON
