Yes, you have to get the pressure plate loose and then the shaft has to be angled down to pull it out. With the coupling out, you should be able to pull the shaft back far enough to get it out of the pilot bearing. You need to get the cross shaft out, because things are then much easier. It's possible to get them out with the cross shaft in there, as I did it, but I could not get them to go back in until the cross shaft was out. Not a big deal to pull that cross shaft out.
