You check the fluid on the left hand side as you are sitting on the seat. The fill plug is angled into the side of the reservoir. Loosen the plug some and relieve any pressure that may have built up inside the reservoir. Don't ask me how I know that there can be pressure in there. Use any good quality hydraulic oil. The whole system takes about 3 quarts. Fill it to about 1/2" below the threads of the fill plug. It needs some room to expand as it heats up during use. I found this out by blowing out one of the plugs in the side of the housing.
