Yes, the shaft is just splined into the differential and slides right out when you pull the final drive off. Since there is no shaft in the hole, seals on transmission/differential housing are easy to replace. Brake drum must be pulled off the shaft to replace the seals on the final drive. As I recall (please doublecheck the diagram) you remove the cover with 4 bolts on the outside of the final drive and after the brake drum is pulled off the shaft(remove set screw that retains the drum), the shaft comes out the back side through the hole. Don't try to drive the shaft out of the brake drum, use a puller, as there is a key (woodruff half moon I think) that well catch on the seal and bearing race if you try to just drive it out. My experience, the brake drums come off easily.
