660 Negative or Positive ground/regulator or cut o

Was a 660 originally positive or negative ground? I think they had two six volt batteries connected to make 12 with a positive ground? I plan to put in two twelves to doubl amps with negative ground. Will this make my amp guage read backwards and how will it affect my 12 volt generator charging system? Should this tractor have a regulator or a cut out? I have a 3 position light switch and I assume a cut out as it has 3 connections not counting the ground wire. Any help appreciated
