A generator queery

Wife is adamant about her Dad's old Farmall A going to the county fair next year so the whole show isn't green. Have been putting off working on the charging system every since it burned up the little box with the amp gauge in it and melted all the wiring when young son bought it home for me. (Father-in-law had the battery hooked up negative ground)
Sooo... two questions. First, what all likely will need to be replaced to make the charging system actually charge again. Secondly, the generator's big ball bearing is completely shot (bits and pieces falling out when took generator apart) so need to find replacement. Where would a person find a suitable replacement for it and the bronze bushing from the other end? All help is appreciated.
