Okay, maybe misguided was a bad choice of words... Penny wise, pound foolish might be a more appropriate phrase. Sure, you get more horsepower, but you completely ignore the drivetrain in the process. It's fine if you don't use the horsepower, but people turning 656s into 90HP tractors, then USING them like 90HP tractors... The tractor abuse is just so horrible I can't even stomach thinking about it! A 656 is built around what is basically an M rear end. An M had 33HP. You do the math...
