Charging '50 super a - Sorry so long

I just put a new harness on a repainted super a. I read almost all of the previous posts and checked out your handy sites so I believe the wiring is correct. The problem is that when I start the tractor the ammeter goes directly to the post on the discharge side. I've taken the lead from the gen lug on the cutout and the meter shows the generator charging, but as soon as I put the wire back I am back to discharge. I have done the polarity routine. Is it possible to change the wiring to the cutout to reverse the polarity? Any other suggestions?
