Belt Pulley Unit

I've been thinking about installing the belt pulley unit that came with our '51 M. I see the plate that has to be removed (under the gas tank) but I'm wondering how difficult the actual installation is. Do you just line the gears up and bolt it down into place?

Also, does the pulley run continously, or only when the PTO lever is engaged? The manual isn't very explicit about these matters.

If things go smoothly, I'll be running a cordwood saw in the near future!
