H hiting and missing

I was out pushing some snow with the H today and notinced that when it was wide open it would pop once and while. And under a heaver laod it woould hesetate then pop again. I replaced all the plugs wires, cap, points,. I noticed that around the middle of the carb between the two halfs. there was gas coming out in the front and the side. I think that gasket failed. Could this cause it pop, miss?? Walt
