Bearing shells can be replaced in-frame without taking the crank out. You loosen the main caps enough so that the crank drops down maybe 1/16". Then take one cap off at a time and replace the shell in the cap, and push the other shell around the crank by pushing one end of it until it starts coming around. Same deal with seals. Thing is, without taking the crank out, it"s pretty tough to mic the journals to see if they"re worn or even if it"s been turned undersize. It"s easier on the rods because you can push the piston up a bit so you can mic the journal. Make sure you measure them in different places to see if they are out of round. They have TISCO rebuild kits on this website, over on the left. Paul
