Starter Solenoid Update - 400D

For those lending me assistance, the starter I have is a Delco 1108996, with some other numbers far to the right that are 7925, which is suspiciously similar to a solenoid number which I currently have that is 7951. Like I said before, I have one coming in which I hope will work. With my current 7951, I had to tap a screw into the end of my plunger to even get it to work, because the plunger cone was more angled than the receiving end of the solenoid, preventing the tip from pushing the starter contact in the solenoid. Thanks for any further suggestions.
