404 Oddball?

Friend called me last night and said he knew of a tractor near by for sale. Like Allan...gotta go and look at it.
It is a 404 Farmall, narrow front, 3 point, no power steering.
He wanted 1500 for it...so I said hand me the keys.
I never paid a lot of attention to the engine. It ran good all the way home. When we got it in the barn and started looking it over it seems not to be a 135. The block has 149 on it.
Anyone ever heard of a 149? I thought they went from 135 to 153.
Tractor seems ok to hang a finish mower on...after I put an over running PTO shaft on it.
