Super C Was good!

I got a problem with my super c, today I used it in a prade to pull a hay wagon and it ran great. On the way home it just died!! So after towing it home I, looked for spark, got spark, ok got it to turn over but all it wants to do is back fire out of the carb. What went wrong here? It was running great until..... that happened!!! I also changed the points, the only other thing I can see is that the coil is getting hot after only a few mins, with the switch on.
