My guess is that you hooked it up with the wrong ground and fried the voltage regulator and that fried the switch and battery cable. Some regulators don't care which way there hooked up others do and will burn thing out if hooked up wrong. An H should be hooked up + ground unless some one has switched it to - ground and most of the time that only happens when an alternator is put on. But who know what has been done to a tractor that is 50 plus years old
