Kirk has it correct. The bearings in the water pump can be replaced without removing the pump from the tractor. You do however have to remove the radiator to get at things. It's not a bad job once the radiator is off. If you decide to replace the bearings, do the grease seals at the same time and get a couple rings of packing to add to the packing around the pump shaft. The zerk that greases the pump shaft won't take much grease. If you overgrease the one that greases the bearings, you may push the seals out. So...don't force things.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion.
