I'm with you, Tweeter. Just because the others use that much fuel doesn't mean its economical. These days that makes it cost $5-$8 hr just for fuel. I had a 354 (144 ci engine) and it used about 2 gal/hr. I bought a heavier (5000 #) 35 PTO hp diesel tractor and it uses about a gallon/hr. You will have to decide if a more expensive diesel tractor is worth the fuel savings. If you run it about 100 hrs/yr, thats about 250-300 $ less in fuel. There are other advantages to the diesel in a farm tractor, though.
