400 gas to diesel conversion

Can a diesel engine from a 400 be swapped into a 400 gas frame and will it work? I have a 400 gas with a bad motor and a chance to get a rebuilt 400 diesel to swap into it, for a very reasonable price. Also have a 450 carcass to get throttle linkage and various other parts that might fit for this swap.Time is not a factor, not critical to get this done, just wanting to pick the brains of people here to get a handle on "will it work".
