Wheel Distance - front step. ( Hugh MacKay?)

I have a Farmall H. I have been considering modifying it to enable the operator to enter the platform from the left front. My thinking is that I can set my wheel out about 6in more on each side, ( currently set about 72 in) and fabricate a step to clamp on the rear axle housing. I really like this tractor, have put a considerable amount of time and money into it, including a Saginaw 3pt hitch. What do ya think? Thanx, Irv LaLonde, Howell, Michigan.
