This is for Allan in NE (and anyone else who can shed some light on the matter) Allan, My tractor is a Farmall 656. The manual says there are two basic front axles for this tractor. One gives a tread width range of 50 to 74 inches and the other gives a tread width range of 56 to 80 inches (both with the wheel concaves turned in). Since I cannot even get to the 56 inch setting, I assume that I have the larger width axle. The book also mentions a really wide axle that goes up to 120". I have also seen the parts manual refer to the above two axle ranges, so if they made a mistake in the manuals they made it both places. My tire size is 7.50-16. The manual says the 56 to 80" tread width applies with 6.50-16 tires. Do you think the tires themselves would create that much difference (I am measuring about 60" for the narrowest setting). Also, you asked if I was measuring the tread width at the top or bottom. Which is the correct place to measure? Also, I am pretty sure that the knees and hubs are original because they still have legible part numbers on them and they match with the parts book. Thanks, Don
