Yesterday the dog and I were using the H to carry a length of pipe up to the top of Collin's Mount. There's a spring up there that we cleaned out for a watering hole and it's running across the road. We got to an unusually steep stretch of road - not dangerously steep, but enough to shift down fron 4th to 2nd. Almost to the top it's as if the gas was cut off. Backed the trailer full of dog and pipe 50 yards or so, steadily appreciating how much better the brakes work when they're properly adjusted. At the bottom of the hill I parked and tried to restart - first heart, then motor. It gave about two pops and then the normal H roar of power. I putit in 1st, opened the throttle a little more than I normally would and tried again. Like nothing had ever happened, but a bit of trust is gone. To turn this into a question: the gas tank was near full and has no visible crud. The sediment bowl has looked clean since I emptied it when I first got the tractor, several years ago. The carb is a rebuilt that came with the tractor, I installed not long after because the old one leaked so badly; it's never given any trouble. I've already started to settle into my usual "it'll never happen again" mode of denial, but if anybody has a theory that I could fall back on I'd feel better. Thanks, Wm
