You are right, I took it apart and your bolt size is correct. Bolt was stripped, went to town bought a new bolt, actually longer and it didn't have enough threads. Cut longer threads on the new bolt, cut it off to the right length, and wala - works just fine.
I am tickeled that I fixed something on this tractor with your help and only $1.75, and I have the three new nuts left as they were too wide.
