Mike, you would have to can the 12 volt alternator n get a 6 volt genny and the mounting brackets n hardware etc. As far as voltage regulation, if it originally used a simple 2 wire 6 volt Cutout Relay you will need one of those PLUS the correct light switch that is the combination type that works the lights plus regulates the gennys Field current. They are something like the L (Low charge) H (High Charge) B (Bright Lights) and D (Dim Lights).

In the event it had a full fledged 3 or 4 terminal Voltage Regulator, you would need a 6 volt one of those HOWEVER you could get by fine (better even) if you switched to a 6 volt 3 or 4 terminal Voltage Regulator and didnt have to even use or rely on the light switch regulation circuit system.

The lights need to be changed to 6 volt and you will need a 6 volt coil UNLESS you retained the old 6 volt coil and used an external voltage reducing (12 to 6) ballast resistor when it was converted from 6 to 12 volts, in which case simply toss the ballast and use the old 6 volt coil unballasted THIS IS FOR A COIL IGNITION if its a Magneto no changes required. NOTE if its a coil ignition and was changed to Negative ground when the 6 to 12 conversion was made, I'd go back to Positive ground which may require the coil have its terminals swapped and also the ammeter leads may have to be swapped if its wired backwards.

Theres a good chance the original 6 volt starter was retained meaning no changes are required.

I recommend the biggest highest rated heavy duty battery that will physically fit onto the compartment plus the use of 00 gauge battery n starter n ground cables on 6 volt systems

The ammeter n light switch n starter switch n points n condensor ought to be fine regardless of what voltage is used.
