IH 340 industrial

I am looking at purchasing an IH 340
industrial with a Massey Ferguson 102 loader
and 220 Backhoe. The oil is gray in color.
That color of oil to me means water is mixed
in. The owner claims the water came from
heavy rains over a couple of days with no
cover on the exhaust. I can't see any oil in the
antifreeze when I look in the radiator. The gas
engine runs smooth. Do you think he could
be right about where the water came from?
An ideas or advice on what I should check next
would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for
your help.
