If the o-ring you speak of is inside the sleeve,that may be the old packing.Someone may have put an o-ring in its place,or if it is like mine was,it was packed so tight and was so hard that it resembled an o-ring In the parts book,item 20 is the packing,if you order that part#,you'll get one piece,with the parts book saying ''as required''.I only put one in,it leaked,and trying to put more packing in while the pump is in the tractor is a chore and a half. I hope this may have helped some.
