Float setting is pretty touchy on these old gals. I expect that once you get the carb apart, thoroughly cleaned, and reassembled with the float set correctly, your problems will go away.

That being said, chances are she'll ALWAYS run a little rich, as most were indeed dual fuel, and the carb is jetted quite a bit richer to allow for the kerosene/distillate it normally ran on. It should still run okay, not fuel-fouling plugs or smoking black smoke, but it'll definitely have an appetite for the gas.
