Bad gas in my H?

I'm thinking about the quick things I want to do to my H to get it running better to get it home and drive it around a bit to evaluate it to determine the extent of overhaul needed.
One of the things I was thinking about was the gas. I have no clue how old the gas in the tank is, or what it is. Would this be much of a factor? Perfectionist me thinks I should just drain it all and fill the tank with high octane Chevron in order to have the cleanest gas possible. What do you all think?
Where do you drain the gas out from?
