Well if it still smeels like gas then its probably ok to use, but if it smells like turpintine then drain it. Couple ways to drain it and each has its good points and bad points. If you pull the drain plug from the bottom of the carb and drain it taht way you will also help clean out any junk that maybe in the carb. Bad point to doing that is if the tank has junk in it you can end up with that junk in the carb. The other way to drain is take the line off at the carb and drain it that way. As far as useing high octane gas it will not hurt any thing but it also will not help any thing since old tractors where made to run on the cheapest stuff you could buy back then
