b21 "When I start my H what exactly is recharging the battery, if at all?" The charging system is which is composed of the generator and associated Voltage Regulator or Cutout Relay if it allll works. "Should I periodically run it for a time this winter to keep the battery charged?"
Probably no need to do so, if youre concerend use one of those smart trickle chargers or battery tenders now n then to keep it charged cuz its better then setting ther in an uncharged state. You could take it out n store in a warm basement etc. "I know enough not to hook a charger to the battery like you would a car (positive goes on a bolt- negative goes behind the starter button right?)" Pos/red of charger goes to + of battery and Neg/black of charger goes to - post of battery REGARDLESS if youre at pos or neg ground cuz even though if it were originally Positive Ground, it may have got changed John T
