Sounds like either an inadegquate resevoir if the cylinders are one way, or a clogged filter/screen. An inadequate filter should make the noise and stop lifting at nearly the same level everytime, which isnt what you indicate. A clogged filter should be less likely to do this when the oil is warm and thinner. I would firast check the filter, altho that might be easier said then done, on my 300u, its a pita and I haven't gotten the gonads to start breaking off bolts in the resevoir cover. I did on one trying to get the toolbox off and said to hell with it, aint touched it since. I dont know much about your tractor, does it have an aftermarket loader plumbed into the stock hydraulics? Does it have power steering? My 300u always makes pump noise, but the time I ran low on hydraulic fluid (would also happen is an inadequate resovoir was used) it sounded absolutely horrible like the damn pump was gonna fly apart, learned real quick to add oil when bleeding the system =). I'm not sure if you just got the tractor or what. Generally when a pump seems to go bad it either gradually get noisier/less power to lift, or it just goes all at once. Intermittent pump operation seems pretty unlikely, tho not impossible. If you have power steering, there is a proportioning valve that can malfunction, but I just read about it and my first hand knowledge of symptoms to look for when this is the problem is limited. I'm sure others will chime in with better help, I'm just trying to do my best to help a guy out, I'm still learning.

Ford Super Dexta - by Anthony West. The rusty blue tractor caught my eye as my truck zipped by the farm implement business. It looked so fornlorn amongst the lineup of newer equipment. But it was just the right size for my small farm. I stopped in and asked the proprietor for further information. "It's a 64 Ford Super Dexta", he said. "It's a tough little tractor, although it's a hard starter being a diesel and all." He did manage to get it running, compliments of a can of ether. Once started it putted along pretty good. It
