Iwth the Key on, use a test light on the wire attached to the side of the distributor. With it out of gear have some one crank the engine at least 5 seconds. The light should blink off and on. If it stays on, the points are not making contact. If it is off and stays of the points are shorted to ground (or closed so much that they stay shut). Clean the points with a fine emery board (Paper nail file) then wipe clean with a folded dollar bill. Adjust the point gap to .020" with the distributor cam pushing the rubbing block on the movable point so that the points are open as far as the cam will push them open (on the high point of the cam.
