Some additional information on the 986 previously mentioned. The tractor has 2900, one owner hours, the AC hasn't worked in years, so in need of a cab re-foam and fixed. When dad bought the tractor new, he always complained that it didn't carry much oil pressure on the gauge. It's never been in the "red" even when hot at idle but gets pretty close. It also has never used any oil. Anyway, when it was new he had the dealer check it multiple times, i.e. check the gauge, the oil sending unit etc. They assured him that nothing was wrong with it. That was many years ago. Since new the tractor has never been pulled hard, ran a undersized disk and chiesel plow on about 160 acres. Ran a baler sum and moved round bales, that's been about all we've done with it. I've noticed that when you first start the tractor it makes a bit of a "clatter sound" until you raise the RPM's and the oil pressure gauge comes up. The clatter immediatly goes away and never comes back until the next time you start it. The oil pressure gauge always reads on the low 1/4 side of the gauge most times, and especially when the motor is warm. Would you guys be afraid of this tractor?? Thanks DJL

What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
