Super M 12 volt - again

I must have a short somewhere. The ammeter still swings hard positive while the tractor is running. The strange thing is it only does it while running...I haven't tried disconnecting the battery while it's running to see if the ammeter swings back to center...will she keep running w/o the battery connected?..and run off of the alternator?
