I have owned a 444 for 30 years. This has happend to it twice. The end of the shifter is whore a little letting it not come completly out of the last gear. Remove clip and spring to take out shifter then line up gear sliders for neutral.A new Shifter or build your old one up and grind smoth to fit slider slot will fix your problem. I was going to fix mine the last time it happend but never did and that was 8 years ago it now has 5625 hrs on it.
