Super A rebuild

I was wondering how long a rebuild will last, I had my super A rebuilt in 04, new valves, springs,guides,rings & rod bearings. By a retired IH mechanic, it ran great for 2yrs now its smoking like a steam engine again? The problem now is the mechanic has moved to Florida. Could have been partly my fault never really worked it real hard, maybe the rings never sealed? Any suggestions on where to start looking?
