When I was a kid Dad had a gas station and I remember he sold regular for.32 cents. I was told later he was high priced as in Indy gas was selling for 25-28 cents, but he did mostly service work on busses and fire trucks for the township. I remember the cow pasture in summer being FULL of busses from 2 different townships to get ready for the next school year. When it came for me to go to school, riding the bus was old hat and I wanted to walk to school! The fire trucks were the fun ones anyway and I got to ride those on test drives as well. When I was in high school I helped Dad do tune ups on the gas trucks which was fun. He closed his shop by then and still did the fire trucks in our driveway at the house. That would shake up the neigbors when they saw fire trucks in our driveway they would stand in front of the house gawking like the house was on fire or something! Yeah prices really su@$. I could have bought 2 tractors for what I have in bearings in one, but oh well it will be like new.
