First off are you using the start posision on the shutdown cable ???? if you are and still having a hard start condition it could be one of two things if the engine is in the shape that you clam . (1) you have low cranking fuel pressure in the injection pump casued by ware in the pump head . (2) your fuel injectors are not cracking at the propper breaking pressure . As for and easy cure NOT either the injectors and the pump will have to have them checked by a pump shop . Now the pump shop will not just check the pump out as they wil rebuild it before they even think of putting it on there stand . This is not the case with the injectors can be tested BEFORE being rebuilt if needed. While you have the injectors out this would be a good time to run a compression test on the engine but this will require special test equipment to do the compression test as a standard compression gauge won't do it.
