Bob, I ruined a good walnut log several years ago with to small a saw. Couldn't cut through quick enough and split the log. Anyhow, I traded my 029 for Stihl 044 and headed back to the woods. The very first tree I ever cut with the new saw done the same thing. Cut completely into and would not fall. Sitting on the new saw BTW. I used the axe to cut a notch and tried felling it with the wedge. It took almost an hour to get it down. Yes a needle wouldn't have went there.
