The original style drive with the spring uses three washers on the drive end. The first one has a smaller ID and goes against the shoulder on the shaft to control end play. The other two go on the shaft past the shoulder and are used to control the travel of the drive. There should be one thick one and one thin one. If you replace the drive with the newer style without the spring the two larger ones are not needed.
