Well if you are wanting to pull your distributor and re-stab it into position then there is an easy way to do it. I don't remember if the distributor gear is helical cut or not but assuming that it is then you need to be sure to mark the location of the distributor housing on the block and on the distributor base with a black marker. Just a line will do. Pull the distributor out, the rotor will turn counter-clockwise a bit when you do. Now mark where the rotor is pointing on the edge of the distributor so you have this position logged.
