Many thanks to they who have helped me so far in my restoration of this A. I am in the final stages and have overcome many problems however; this one has me stumped for three weeks. The throttle arm that goes to the governor seem to be fine, the arm and linkage that go to the carb "surge" and the engine speed is all over the place. If I hold the rod in one postion it will settle down for a moment the go right back to the surging. There is a sweet spot right about half throttle, but when I tr to go to 2/3 throttle it begins surging. I have rebulit the Zenith carb completely, added a fuel filter that is catching some crud from the tank, I have added a light spring to settle it down but I know that not the way it"s designed to work. Help... we need this tractor for upcoming grape hervest. I need the Farmall experts from around the country to solve this.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
