I should point out that the first option requires alot of engineering, precision machine work, and prototype testing. Without looking at the differential, it may not even be possible because the carrier bearings may get in the way.
Just bear in mind, that one of the bevel gears or bull pinion shafts has to be temporarily locked to its adjacent differential cage half.
