Mike, Just run straight HD 30 wt of a brand of your choice. That is what the book calls for and is what My Grandpa always used in his Ms and IH 300. Since you are in So Cal it will be warm enough for that grade for all year. Don"t run the non detergent as another said and I would even stay away from Diesel engine oil since it has way more detergent. The last filter I got was a wix from O"reilly auto parts and it was cheap! Good grade of filter but inexpensive. Just remember there was a long filter and a short one for Hs. The long one is like you will see on an M.
