Oil seals will sometimes wear a grove in the metal surface (I know that's hard to believe, that rubber will wear down metal, but it happens). So instead of welding and then machining the surface, someone designed a thin sleeve to fit over the metal surface and called it speedi-sleeve. In the case of an engine it would be the front and rear main seal. The A engine uses a felt insert instead of rubber. Wayne
