thanks Ed, a picture is worth a thousand words, those leave no doubt, It is possible that the cracks may be restitched,but if it has failed once..., plus stitching cracks is a labour intensive ( slow) process. like you said if you could find a good used casting you would then have enough parts between the two to probably rebuild one good one. Just for comparison I had the head on my BD144 done about 4 years ago, 4 new exhaust seats, 4 new guides, all v/v's ground & head resurfaced. Cost was $250 CDN. At that time I priced the precup chambers incase I needed one, complete with holder & gaskets(seals) was $173 CDN. Just did an online search @ Hoobers Case/IH & one complete assembly would be about $110 USD. So a person would not want replace to many of them.... if any. Doug
