My guess is the hydraulic fluid (a generic for hy-tran which I purchased from my Case/IH dealer), got so thick that when the pump tried to draw fluid it crushed the strainer in the hydraulic reservoir, as it couldn't get hydraulic fluid through the strainer.
Anyhow, straighened out the strainer and put in lighter hydraulic fluid and all works again. Just wanted to through out a word of caution as I haven't seen this problem discussed on here.

I kinda doubt that it was the thickness of the fluid alone. You may have had some condensation in there that froze up also. None the less I'm glad you got it all straighted out.
