There are many, many turbo diesels of every color out there running with straight pipes. If you have a cab then that will quiet it down a little. If you are going to do a lot of farming with it you should probably either put a muffler on it or wear hearing protection. I know. Most farmers don't worry about things like that. They do sound sweet with the straight pipe. I would agree with Allen on the tach. If you haven't been around a lot of turbo diesels it is hard to tell from the sound if you are getting all of your rpms.
