My dad had an old WD allis. It had the hand clutch and it was the first tractor I learned to drive, probably about 1969 or so. The first REAL big tractor I drove very much was dad's 656. I hauled more hay with that tractor than I care to remember. We had one of those horrid Heston "stack hands"... the stacks would fall over easily, or the tops would slide off or they would just lean so far you were afraid to even get close to them. The bale mover had 5 long tines that went under the bale,and a big "hand", that clamped down on top of it so you could pick it up without it sliding apart when it was freshly stacked adn still "fluffy". After they had settled for a few days, they were a lot easier to move. Half the time, the tines would hang up on the bottom of the stack as you tried to slide them under it, and you'd be shoving the stupid thing all around trying to get it on. Dad traded off his 656 last year for Case IH DC40 with a bucket. He's pretty much retired from farming but needed something to tinker around the farm with that was easy to het on and off of.....
