I bought a 3514 loader backhoe that was running strong last season, but has been extensively "tinkered" on in an attempt to get it restarted this year.
Prior owner did not disrupt timing, but replaced all electrical components (wires,coil,dist,points,etc.)
Ruled out fuel issues and now turning attention to electrics.
Found the wires hooked up wrong (running clockwise rather than counterclockwise).
Right now it fires 3x"s on ether then quits.
Current questions:
With the motor at TDC, should the rotor be pointing to #1 or #4 ?
Is this a + or - system ?
Would be a great help if a fellow owner could snap a picture of the cap + wires to get orientation correct.
