My 49 M has an add-on vertical distributor.I've always thought the upright dist. were Delco-Remy. This distributor has the IH part no. 353898R1 cast in the dist. housing which is the same part no.as the horizontal mounted IH dist. Did Delco-R provide the IH distributors? My problem is when it's left out in light rain the points & condensor must dried out before it will start. After sitting out in 1.3" rain over 12 hrs. The tractor started but popped and banged for a minute or so before it stopped. When I removed the cap the distributor was level full of water. The points & condensor were completely submerged. The cap for this dist. has no overlap over the distributor housing. The distributor has the breaker cover with gasket (part #352284R2). Is there available a cap with an overlap lip covering the dist. housing? (Like my 656 dist. has) If so does anyone have a part no. from someone? NAPA, CaseIH, etc. My parts book only shows one cap. I'm thinking I may have to put a wide rubber band around the cap & distributor seam.
